 Vision Statement

Educate, Engage, Entertain

This is my vision statement for my presentations.  I try to stay away from bullet points and prefer to tell a story.  MOSS is a very engaging story and stories are the best way to learn and retain.

First and foremost, the story must educate.  I don't want to waste anyone's time.  Every presentation contains facts, most contain demo's, and all are well researched.

While telling a story I like to utilize pop culture for my analogies.  Our culture surrounds us and is a part of our fabric.  This lends itself to remembering what it is I spoke about.  I like to involve the audience and get their participation.

Finally, I don't like to be bored or I will fall asleep.  Therefore, I don't want those who listen to me to be put asleep.  I make it a point to be entertaining, even if it is at my expense.

SharePoint Presentations

Campaign Mgr

In this tough election season, a campaign manager needs someone backing them that guide their campaign so it does not veer off course. The main goal is to be elected. SharePoint is your candidate and fortunately for us, there is a strong campaign manager. The name is CONTENT TYPE. In this presentation we learn everywhere content type should be present and the best practices around this critical feature. There are demos included. Best Practice #1 - There is no implementation of MOSS without content types.

The Odd Couple

Excel usage has seeped into every corner of all size organizations. Let's not forget about Access. It has been around as long and users are passionate about their databases. In comes SharePoint and as Mark Twain remarked, "Reports of Access' death have been greatly exaggerated." In fact, Access can be used to enhance SharePoint. There are features where each one excels (pun meant). In this presentation we take a look at the integration points utilizing a real access application.

Letters from the Front

The world wide web contains a plethora of information on SharePoint. Sometimes the best information is in the question that a user posts for assistance. In this Ken Burns like presentation, hundreds of questions and the answers have been pulled from a multitude of places. To name a few: Yahoo, google, msdn groups, discussion boards, Expert-Exchange.

Homer vs Nuclear

The likenesses of the Simpson's are used to evince the differences between Sites vs SubSites. In a carefully scripted court case Homer is sued for setting up site collections for the Nuclear Plant which then causes a meltdown. Or does it? The Nuclear management, Mr. Burns, contents that Homer should have utilized subsites thereby making the plant more efficient. As this plays out you will see the differences between the two.

Eight is Enough

This play on words refers not to the 70's drama, but to the pace of change and the new technologies that came out this year: Windows 2008 and SQL Server 2008. In this presentation we take a look at how these technologies affect our SharePoint environment. We cover how they bring ROI to our companies so that you may "sell" them to your management.

This was created from the jQuery Tabs Tutorial blog entry.
